No tuition fees, but not everything is free
Most programmes at public universities charge no tuition fees. These are the costs we plan into your budget together.
Tuition fees
According to the DAAD, public universities in Germany charge no tuition fees for a first degree (Erststudium). Universities in states that charge non-EU students, such as Baden-Württemberg, are not on this list; for master's programmes we check the fee status programme by programme.

Every semester you pay a semester contribution (Semesterbeitrag) to the university. The amount differs by university and usually includes a regional public-transport ticket; current amounts are on the university pages.
Living costs and visa
Rent, health insurance and day-to-day costs are paid by the student. A student visa usually requires proof of funds through a blocked account; the amount is updated every year.

Some programmes, especially continuing-education (weiterbildend) master's programmes, charge fees. We check each programme's fee status on its official page before you apply.
